THE 5TH ALL-RUSSIAN MGIMO TRANSLATION CONTESTOF PROFFESIONAL COMMUNICATION IN CHINESE

In 6th of December 2024 in the MGIMO of Ministry of Foreign Affairs was held the 5th All-Russian translation contest of professional communication in Chinese (socio-political translation) supported by Russian-Chinese Business Council.

This year the contest was dedicated to several events such as the 75th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China,to the 80th anniversary of MGIMO and to 70th anniversary of Chinese, Vietnamese, Burmese, Thai, Lao and Khmer languages department.

The contest was organized by MGIMO Chinese, Vietnamese, Burmese, Thai, Lao and Khmer languages department. Also the title partners of the contest became Publishing house «VKN» and the Community of Russian-Chinese friendship.

During the opening ceremony of contest,Russian Ambassador to Thailand and head of diplomacy department Kirill Mikhailovich Barsky (Chairman of the contest jury), deputy director of the 1st Asia Department of the Ministry of Forreign Affairs Vitaliy Victorovich Fadeev, Minister Counsellor of education of Chinese Embassy Mr. Cao Shihai, deputy chief executive of the Russian-Chinese Business Council Igor Georgiyevich Batalov, Head of language training department of MGIMO Marina Anatolievna Chigasheva and head of Chinese, Vietnamese, Burmese, Thai, Lao and Khmer languages department Olga Aleksandrovna Maslovets welcomed participants.

As part of the event,honourable members of jury held a workshop about history of translation in China.

The main goal of the annual contest is increasing students’ level of expertise and skills in Chinese language and in socio-political translation, and stimulating the interest to China,to its foreign policy and economy,to the Russian Chinese political and trade cooperation, cultural and humanitarian interaction.

Participants of the contest were students of bachelor’s and master’s degree from Russian and Belorussian universities.

At the end of the contest,honourable members of jury produced and encouraged the most distinguished participants.

According President Putin’s decree about interlinked years of Russian and Chinese cultures in 2024-2025, holding this kind of events is extremely important for sustainable for bilateral trade and economic, political and socio cultural relations between Russian and China.
